Wanting Things: ほしい
Express that you want a thing or item using ほしい in simple polite sentences.
Core Pattern
Use noun + が ほしいです to say that you want a thing. This pattern is for objects, not actions. The desired item is usually marked with が.
あたらしい くつが ほしいです。
I want new shoes.
The wanted item is usually marked by が.
いま 水が ほしいです。
I want water now.
いま makes the desire feel immediate.
たんじょうびに じてんしゃが ほしいです。
I want a bicycle for my birthday.
たんじょうびに adds the occasion for the wish.
