Use this, that, and that over there before a noun, and keep them separate from これ, それ, and あれ.
Recognize この, その, and あの as noun-following forms.Keep the same distance logic as これ, それ, and あれ.Read short noun phrases smoothly from left to right.

These forms must go before a noun
Unlike これ, それ, and あれ, these words must directly modify a noun. Read them together with the noun as one chunk: このほん, そのかばん, あのひと.
このほんはわたしのです。
This book is mine.
そのかばんはたなかさんのです。
That bag is Tanaka's.
あのひとはせんせいです。
That person over there is a teacher.
