Purpose with Verb Stem + に行く
Express purpose of movement with the verb stem plus に and a movement verb such as 行く, 来る, or 帰る.
Core pattern
Use the verb stem plus に with a movement verb to say that you go somewhere in order to do something. Read the purpose action first, then the destination, and finally the movement verb.
勉強しに図書館へ行きます。
I go to the library to study.
勉強しに is the stem-plus-に chunk showing purpose.
パンを買いに店へ行きます。
I go to the shop to buy bread.
買いに shows the purpose before the movement verb.
本を借りに図書館へ行きます。
I go to the library to borrow a book.
The same pattern works with other actions such as borrowing.
