What to expect at N3

N3 stories give intermediate learners more connected reading practice without removing the support that keeps momentum going.

A practical way to read at N3

Follow the speaker's viewpoint

N3 passages often depend on attitude and implication. Track who is speaking, what changed, and whether a phrase expresses expectation, hesitation, contrast, or a conclusion rather than translating each line in isolation.

Delay low-value lookups

Open a definition when a word blocks the event or argument. If the surrounding sentence still makes sense, mark the word and keep reading; the next line may clarify it more naturally than a dictionary entry.

Summarize the turning point

When you finish, state the central change in one sentence: what the character learned, decided, misunderstood, or resolved. That check reveals whether you followed the passage as a connected story rather than a list of sentences.
