Sentence 1

月曜日の放課後、ゆいは教室の花の当番でした。

On Monday after school, Yui was on duty for the classroom flowers.

Sentence 2

窓の近くにある白い鉢には、赤い花と小さい草が入っています。

In the white pot near the window, there are red flowers and small plants.

Sentence 3

昼に先生が「帰る前に水をあげてくださいね」と言っていました。

At noon, the teacher was saying, “Please give them water before you go home, okay?”

でも、その日は朝から少し暑くて、土もかなり乾いていました。

But on that day, it had been a little hot since morning, and the soil was also quite dry.

ゆいはじょうろを持ってきましたが、ぞうきんを忘れてしまいました。

Yui brought the watering can, but she forgot the cleaning cloth.

水をあげる前に、ゆいは机の上と窓の下を少しふきました。

Before giving the flowers water, Yui wiped the top of the desk and the area under the window a little.

そのとき、友だちのりなが教室に戻ってきて、「手伝ってもいい?」と聞きました。

At that time, Yui’s friend Rina came back to the classroom and asked, “May I help?”

ゆいは「じゃあ、この鉢を持ってください」と言いました。

Yui said, “Then, please hold this pot.”

りなが鉢を少し動かすと、後ろに落ちた葉っぱがたくさん見えました。

When Rina moved the pot a little, a lot of fallen leaves could be seen behind it.

二人はそれを集めて、ごみ箱に入れました。

The two of them gathered them up and put them into the trash can.

それから、花に水をあげて、草のまわりの土をやさしくさわりました。

After that, they gave water to the flowers and gently touched the soil around the plants.

さっきより、花が少し元気に見えました。

りなは「毎日少しずつ見ると、ちがいが分かるね」と笑いました。

帰る前に二人で窓を閉めて、じょうろを水道の下にもどしました。

Before going home, the two of them closed the window and put the watering can back under the faucet.

ゆいは「当番は少し大変だけど、花を見るといい気分になる」と思いました。

Yui thought, “Being on duty is a little hard, but when I look at the flowers, I feel good.”
