Hiragana and katakana writing practice

Watch the stroke order, trace a character, then try it from memory. Free practice, at your pace, with no account needed.

Preparing your writing space…

Make each kana feel familiar

Start with the 46 basic hiragana or 46 basic katakana, then practise 20 dakuten forms in each script. Watch the complete character form in stroke order, including the two small marks in characters such as が and ガ. Pause the demonstration or replay a stroke whenever you need another look.

Watch, then trace

Follow the guide with a mouse, finger, or stylus. Try the numbered starting dots when you are ready for less help. You can also watch and write on paper.

Write from memory

Hide the guide and recall the shape. A three-second peek gives you a hint while preserving your attempt. Short review sessions help you return to earlier characters.

Keep your own pace

Smaller handwriting is welcome. Feedback checks approximate shape, stroke order, and direction. Your drawings and progress stay in this browser; checks are practice guidance, not a handwriting grade.

Practise the characters from your lesson

Choose a lesson to open its characters in the studio. This release includes basic kana and dakuten; handakuten and small kana are not yet included.

Can I use the writing studio offline?

Open Your writing progress and choose Save hiragana or Save katakana for offline practice while connected. Keep using this browser to return to the saved studio, characters, and pronunciation. Clearing browser storage removes saved downloads and progress.
