月曜日の朝、学校の靴箱の前には濡れた傘がたくさんありました。

On Monday morning, there were many wet umbrellas in front of the school shoe lockers.

前の日の夕方、急に強い雨が降ったからです。

あやが学校に入ると、先生が少し困った顔で立っていました。

When Aya entered the school, a teacher was standing there with a slightly troubled look on her face.

The teacher said, “Could someone straighten up the umbrella area a little?”

あやは近くにいたみかに声をかけて、二人で手伝うことにしました。

まず、長い傘と折りたたみ傘を別々の場所に分けました。

So Aya went to get a cleaning cloth and wiped up the water.

そのあとで、入口の近くに「傘はここに置いてください」と書いた紙を貼りました。

After that, they put up a paper near the entrance that said, “Please put umbrellas here.”

紙の下には、小さい字で「帰る前に自分の名前を見てください」とも書きました。

一時間目が終わるころ、一年生の男の子が青い傘を探しに来ました。

休み時間になると、ほかの生徒たちも自分の傘を取りに来ました。

先生は「それは職員室で預かりますから、あとで持って来てください」と言いました。

二人でその傘を運んだあと、入口を見ると、朝よりずっと歩きやすくなっていました。

After the two of them carried that umbrella away, they looked at the entrance and saw that it had become much easier to walk through than in the morning.

あやは、物をただ置くだけでなく、分かりやすく並べることも大切だと思いました。

Aya thought that it is important not only to put things down, but also to arrange them so they are easy to understand.

帰るとき、朝より明るくなった空を見て、明日も気持ちよく学校に来られそうだと感じました。

When she was going home, Aya looked at the sky, which had become brighter than in the morning, and felt that she would probably be able to come to school feeling good tomorrow too.
