雨のあとの山道 story text

A reflective N4 outing story that uses experience, advice, conditionals, goals, and becoming able to do something. It gives learners a longer but still readable real-world narrative.

Sentence 1

文化祭のじゅんびが一段落したあと、あやとみかは日曜日に近くの山へ行く計画を立てました。

After the preparations for the cultural festival had settled down, Aya and Mika made a plan to go to a nearby mountain on Sunday.

Sentence 2

みかは前から朝の山道を歩いてみたいと思っていて、あやも一度写真をたくさん撮りたいと思っていました。

Mika had wanted for some time to try walking a mountain path in the morning, and Aya had also wanted to take lots of pictures at least once.

Sentence 3

けんはその山に二回登ったことがあるので、道が分かりにくい場所を地図で教えてくれます。

Ken has climbed that mountain twice, so he shows them on a map the places where the path is hard to follow.

前日の夜は雨でしたが、朝になったら天気はかなりよくなりました。

The night before, it rained, but by morning the weather had become quite good.

それでも、ぬれた石はすべりやすいので、父は「急な道ではゆっくり歩いたほうがいい」と言いました。

Even so, because wet stones are slippery, her father said, 'On steep paths, you'd better walk slowly.'

あやたちは駅前で会って、飲みものとおにぎりを買ってからバスに乗ります。

Aya and the others meet in front of the station, buy drinks and rice balls, and then get on the bus.

登り口に着くと、空気が町よりずっと冷たくて、鳥の声も近くに聞こえました。

When they get to the trailhead, the air is much colder than in town, and they can hear birds close by.

はじめの道は広かったのですが、少し上がると木が多くなって、足元が見えにくくなります。

The path at first was wide, but when they go up a little, there are more trees, and it becomes harder to see their footing.

みかは転ばないように、ストックをしっかり持って歩きます。

So that she will not fall, Mika walks holding her pole firmly.

けんがときどき後ろをふり返ってくれるので、あやは安心してついて行けます。

Because Ken sometimes turns around for them, Aya can follow along without worry.

途中の休けい所でお茶を飲んだとき、谷の向こうに白い雲が流れていくのが見えました。

When they drank tea at a rest area on the way, they could see white clouds drifting away beyond the valley.

あやは最近忙しくてあまり運動していませんでしたが、前より長く歩けるようになったと感じます。

Aya has been busy lately and had not been exercising much, but she feels that she has become able to walk longer than before.

Sentence 13

山の上の小さい展望台に着いたら、みんなで写真を撮るつもりでしたが、風が強かったので、少し下の広い場所で休むことにしました。

When they reached the small lookout at the top of the mountain, they had planned to take pictures together, but because the wind was strong, they decided to rest in a wide place a little lower down.

そこで食べたおにぎりはとてもおいしくて、みかは「また別の季節にも来たいね」と笑います。

The rice balls they ate there were very good, and Mika smiles and says, 'I want to come again in a different season too.'

帰りのバスでは三人とも少し眠くなりましたが、あやは次はもっと遠い山にも行けるように、ふだんから歩く時間を増やそうと思いました。

On the bus ride back, all three became a little sleepy, but Aya thought that she would increase the time she spends walking in daily life so that next time she can also go to a farther mountain.

家に着いてくつをぬぐと、足はつかれていましたが、心はふしぎなくらい軽くなっていました。

When she got home and took off her shoes, her legs were tired, but her heart had become strangely light.
